I’m a younger leader but have found that when I lead the team in devotionals before a practice, it really centers our hearts on Christ and helps us remember why we do what we do and Who its for. I was wondering if there were any great worship team devotionals out there? I’ve just been [...]

As I have indicated in a previous post, we are an Anglican community so very liturgical by nature. Our scripture readings follow the Revised Common Lectionary. My repertoire tends to be very extensive. I could choose from very contemporary to more traditional pieces all in the same liturgy. Sometimes it’s a real challenge. In selecting the music for the Sunday, I read and reflect on the readings for that day. I also talk to the priest to see what are the key elements of the homily/sermon/message and therefore try to pick music that goes along with that theme, in addition to what comes out of the reflection and guidance of the HS. When the message and the music are intricately linked it can increase the effect of the HS’s impact on people and serves to reinforce the teaching that has occurred.
There has been a lot of new that I have introduced to this parish since I took up the music direction 13 years ago and certainly a lot of weeding as well. We can never get too comfortable and get complacent about worship and get stuck doing the same ol’ same. Blessings

I try to watch what our congregation to see is connecting with and definitely lean towards those. Part of my reasoning for considering this is that I don’t want to feel like I am keeping up with Jones’. With the way music is published and the amount of exposure a song has now it no [...]

Oh, so to add to the Top 20 really means to put another song into the supplements (though we do take them out at intervals, not a consistent thing)… When I was in charge of it I did up a spreadsheet and kept the most used songs in the Top 20… That way, no-one could [...]

I would suggest not taking a break from introducing new worship songs but to weed out some of the old rarely used ones. We try to have a Top 20 and then about the same number of songs we call ‘supplements’. We encourage worship leaders to use songs from the Top 20 with occasional use [...]

We are an Anglican Community so we have services the entire week of Easter. Monday -Wednesday are more prayer and scripture services with the music joining in on Holy Thursday. This service focuses on the watch in Gethsemane. I chose the pieces The Wonderful Cross(Chris Tomlin), Lead Me to the Cross(Hillsong) and Remember(Tim Hughes) for praise time then Once Again(Matt Redman), Meekness and Majesty and Such Love(Graham Kendrick). Then Good Friday we sang:Must Jesus bear the Cross (trad),Beaneath the Cross(Keith Getty),How Deep the Father’s Love for us(Stuart Townend); Easter Vigil on Saturday: Here I am to worship(Tim Hughes), See what a morning(Stuart Townend), He is Rise(trad), In Christ Alone(stuart Townend) and then on Easter Sunday: Agnus Dei(Micheal W Smith), I Will Rise(Chris Tomlin), All Because fo Jesus(Steve Fee), Jesus Christ is Risen(trad), Above All(Paul Baloche), See What a morning and In Christ Alone again.
By Sunday afternoon I am vocally exhausted but so full of joy. Alleluia, He is Risen, the Lord is Risen indeed. Praise God for His saving grace.
Easter Blessings to all who lead in worship.
