Hello Sisters! I am encouraged to read all your comments below. I have been a worship leader for the past 10 years in our church of 180 people. For the 20 some years before that I was involved in worhsip in various different churches as a singer or choral director or sound person or schedule co-ordinator. I have noticed that much has changed over the years as far as the perspective of women in the leadership role. I recall feeling there was an unsaid but ”firm” rule that I could be involved as a woment but I should never be the leader. That job was only for the men to do. I guess it made me self concious and I think I compensated or coped with this such that I never really knew what my role was. I was afraid to do the wrong thing. I realize I was looking for affirmation. I don’t even know when it came exactly. I think it is part from people (a word of encouragement from the pastor or others) and then from God as well. i now make a point of affirming others when I see them finding there role. (epecially women)

Hello everyone! I am so glad that there is a forum here to encourage women worship leaders! I pray that our questions and comments can bring clarity and unity to all who have been given the charge to lead out in whatever capacity the Lord has asked of them. I am serving as worship and creative arts minister in Colorado, and have done so for 27 years now. I have noticed that it is pretty rare for a women to have a full-time vocational position, and I am incredibly blessed to serve at a church that continues to give me the opportunity. I want to say to all you women out there who feel a call on their lives to be a worship leader- He will open the doors for you. You do not have to ”force it”, grow in your relationship with the Lord, hone your craft as a musician/vocalist, learn about leadership, and be available to serve.
Thank you Dan and your team for creating this on-line worship training resource. I am pointing my team towards it and challenging them to identify areas in which they can grow.
Not that I have learned it all, but if you have any questions concerning leading with guitar, leading teams, etc. I would be happy to chat with you. God bless you today as you walk with HIM!
