Wow. I feel a little silly having given you the suggestions below. You have already posted a first draft. I listened to it.
You have a beautiful voice. I really liked what I heard. I will do an analysis later. For now, just know… You did it! You did it well!!

@dpierce Dawn, I can’t help but believe you have a wealth of ideas to draw from too. Think about it! Think about all the ways HE’s touched, spoken to you, mended your wounds, held your hand, affirmed you, loved you, understood you and desired fellowship with you. Think about all the times HE rescued you from [...]

@victoria-trichilo – This is my first songwriting course, too! I have attended a couple of seminars, but I am definitely a novice. You will enjoy the God Songs book once you get it. I already had a copy of the book before knowing it was required for the class. It is very helpful reading through it [...]

I’ve never done a songwriting course before, although I’ve read one book on the subject. I haven’t begun reading the book selections yet, but am very excited to do so. Watching the media represented here has proven to me I’m not abnormal. I heard a lot of comments made that I’ve experienced during the writing [...]

@dpierce I don’t have Paul’s book, “God Songs” yet. It was out of stock. However, I find interesting your mention that he addresses intervals and chord structure or progression(s) and how they can enhance a melody and lyrics. This information makes me look forward to receiving the book. As for you being a ‘creative being’ with [...]

@victoria-trichilo – Nice work on the song analysis for “Breathe”. That songs has a beautiful built-in cry and the melody really brings out the best in the lyrics. I pray that God gives you clear direction on the song He will have you write. I am looking forward to hearing it!!

I have never considered myself to be creative. Yet, we learned in Essentials in Worship Theology that we are formed in the image of God (Imago Dei). He is creator and He has passed on His creative traits to His offspring. I am coming to accept that I am creative, just in my own unique [...]

Song Analysis: Breathe by Michael W. Smith This song is one I’ve enjoyed often in corporate worship because The Holy Spirit permeates the heart when an individual contemplates its powerful message. God is presented as the very essence of who we are. His Sustaining Power is clearing depicted, so hearts open to Him in worship [...]

Wow! Sorry everyone – a little behind here as I had an old schedule in my hands & thought this class (along with Theology) didn’t start till June! But I’d love to jump in if that’s ok! I’ll get caught up right away.

My name is Janelle, and this course SCARES me!! I’ve always wanted to write songs, but have never pushed myself to actually do it or think that I may actually be talented enough to do it. Here’s hoping this changes that.
Hello and welcome! I was so certain I had already written a greeting to you… but it’s not here, so I must have been mistaken.
In any case, ”welcome”. You say you have ’never pushed (your)self to actually (writing) songs’. I pray that the delight you experience as GOD Releases HIS Anointing in you, to write as many songs as your heart desires, will be exponentially greater than any fear you might have felt in the past.
Remember, perfect love casts out all fear. Just think: loving GOD is enough to dispel your anxieties and release a fluid stream of inspiring and joyous worship! MAY you BE BLESSED as HE BRINGS you closer to your heart’s desire… HIS Promise to you. All you have to do is, ”delight yourself in THE LORD”. HE’ll take care of the rest!
Be BLESSED, Beloved, for HIS NAME’s Sake, for HIS GLORY, HONOUR, ADORATION, REVERENCE and PRAISE!!!!! Amen.

Song Analysis Blessed Be Your Name written by Matt & Beth Redman This is one of the strongest worship songs we use for corporate worship. It is simple and singable for the congregation. The song vision is drawn from the first chapter of Job and can be summed up as, “in all circumstances, the name [...]
