This section of spiritual formation is full of great ideas. Dan Wilt said to make what inspires us part of our daily regiment and sing every day. Music inspires and energizes me more than anything and I have been neglecting it. I will definitely incorporate more music into my daily routine. Bernard of Clairvaux teaches [...]

@garth2011 I couldn’t agree with you more when you point out that identifying the local church’s particular community/culture should be the starting point for seeking to be culturally relevant. Logical as it seems, this is a step missed by much church leadership.

@jrnall I enjoyed your response. My church recently switched from a multiple service/style format to a combined, blended format. Though it is in its infant stages, for the most part, it has been received well. We have about 50 in our choir, a rhythm band accompanied by a small orchestra and a praise team. More importantly [...]

@plohrmann So, since you brought it up, I’ll ask you a question I’ve been wrestling with myself recently. Do you believe a single church offering multiple services with unique worship styles contributes to a western, consumeristic, “it’s all about me” mentality of worship? Do we come to worship focused on what we are to receive (and [...]

Having led worship in a number of local fellowships but always within the Southern Baptist tradition and always in the deep South, Bible-belt region, I believe my tradition on the whole embodies these values relatively well for its surrounding culture. There is generally an openness to contemporary worship expressions, though there is often push back [...]

Hi , my name is Brandy and I have really loved the theology course. MY husband and I are worship coordinators for our church and I really just want to learn more and learn how to teach and mentor for the worship people we are blessed with.

I am really a member of two churches as I live in one area but am often visiting another area. I can say that both churches embody the value of “Kingdom Expectation” in our worship expressions. The first church opens the service with one song of joy and expectation for what God has for us [...]

We all do, Jenetha. We want to sit still and listen, but our hearts are filled with turbulence and our minds are at dis-ease. I love your words – “I want to prepare my heart… to be a vessel….” So good.
I look forward to your creative project. Let me know when it’s up. Blessings!

Bernard of Clairvaux’s fourth degree of love moved me the most in this section. “The love of self for God’s sake.” This encourages me to look at everything I do in a different light. I want to prepare my heart, mine and soul to be a vessel on this journey by being intentional about my [...]

Kingdom Expectation is embodied in my faith community. As I mentioned, regarding intimacy, time is fixed for us. However, God is always expected to show up in our corporate worship. We ask Him to come and He does in different ways and times. We often share the healings and joys that God has done in [...]

The value of accessibility is strongly embodied in my faith community. Loving each other and others is what we do best. A new face in our community is immediately recognize and graciously welcomed. We are a very comfortable group of believers. We accept people just as they are. There is no pressure to dress a [...]

My faith community worships in a facility where time is a factor. We have to pack everything into a one-hour time slot on Sunday morning. I feel that because each part of the service is short, it is a hindrance to us and does not give us time to create the space for most worshippers [...]
