love it! some good info in there, both reminders and new concepts.
I agree with Stuart’s comment. Additionally, getting music ahead of time is very helpful (particulartly mp3s if you’ve not heard the music before). What I really love is Dan giving more education and reason to being courteous and supportive to our leaders and team members (backing off while others are working something, appreciating peoples gift of time).
Courtesy is a big part of our rehearsal setting. We have asked everyone not to play their instruments or carry on loud conversations when others are working on parts. This, in turn, helps our worship leader to better lead rehearsal and get the things accomplished that she has set.
Good stuff Dan. Keep it coming!
I’d only say that sending mp3 audio is almost always illegal, unless you are using an authorized service that allows you to send audio (legally). Just buying a CD and making mp3s is not legal, neither is buying mp3s from most digital sources. You actually need to buy separate copies of audio, or you are stealing audio.
The alternative is to get a hold of the music company and pay for the individual audio copies, or the service Worshipteam.com that allows you to legally share audio. Note that most planning systems may allow you to distribute an mp3, but that doesn’t mean it is legal. Make sure to check that what you are doing in distributing audio mp3s or pdf sheet music is legal. You must have licensing to do these things.
Many people think that the basic CCLI license allows you to send audio and PDF sheet music around to your team. It does not. Please learn what is legal and follow the law before distributing music and stealing it from the songwriters/companies which own the music.
I agree with Kim. It is illegal to reproduce CD’s and hand them out to your team. We stopped doing this about 5 years ago. We have asked all members to download their own mp3 copies on their own computers. That way, it is legal. We got away from offering a service of downloading separate, legal mp3 copies for each team member. Too much work for one person to head up and too expensive for our church. If there are people who have trouble with downloading music (financial or inexperience), we are showing them other options, like using a relatives’ computer to store music downloads or just using YouTube to listen to and practice songs.
We use http://www.worshipteam.com here so that we don’t need to do any downloading. It gives our team members online access to stream the mp3s legally and saves us a ton of headache.
Please excuse my terminology. When I say mp3s, what I mean is sending links to youtube versions and the like. Our team is very cautious of the above mentioned issues. I myself often purchase mp3s from amazon and the like so I can save a little and work on the intended music. Sorry for the confusion.
