Historically Speaking: Songwriters And The Church

  1. I hurt with Horatio as I listen to the story that led to the birthing of, “It Is Well”. Pain has a way of bringing us to points of worship that would never be experienced during superficialities. Then I am brought to wonder what songs of trust, love and profound surrender must have been lifted up to GOD during those circumstances of martyrdom, songs that will never know a second uttering, songs that will resound before The Throne of GOD ALMIGHTY for all eternity as a result of the absolute commitment and unwavering faith of those Saints who were called to shed their blood for the Cause of Messiah!

This clip is profoundly inspiring; and while I don’t want to have to go through such crushing as is necessary to produce worship dipped in myrrh, I am all too aware that there will be seasons in every Believer’s life that does that exactly. Knowing Stafford maintained his faith and produced lyrics that spoke of undying dedication to The One Who Alone Is Able to Heal every wound, makes the knowing a blessing.

This insight is much appreciated. Thank you.
