    I Am

    I Am (Isaiah 54) Chords

Isaiah 54:10 says, ”‘Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” (NIV).

I decided to use this song as my Creative Project because one of the themes we have studied in our Essentials in Worship Leading has been on the attitude of our hearts and how to really focus our heart on the Lord when we’re worshiping.  When we fully surrender our life to Christ, we’re saying that we trust in Him, we rely on Him, and we live for Him no matter the cost.  Sometimes when hardships come into our life, we turn away from the Lord and harden our hearts and it completely changes the way we worship.  Isaiah 54:10 reminds us that no matter what comes our way, we need to fix our eyes and focus our hearts on Jesus.

I specifically wrote this song for a good family friend of our family who had lost her husband back in December.  When I saw her about about a month ago, I asked how her and her daughters were doing.  She told me that the grieving process was not getting easier. She’s a very committed Christian, but through this she has found it hard to trust that God knows what He is doing.

After I saw her, I could not stop thinking about the topic of God as our healer.  The Bible has many scriptures that attest to God’s incredible compassion and refer to Him as being the healer of the broken.  About a month ago, I was reading Isaiah 54 and after reading verse 10, I started singing this song that I hadn’t even written yet.  I finished the song within the next couple of days and started praying about performing the song and how the Lord could use it to comfort His children that are hurting.  The opportunity came when I was asked to open for the Christian band, The Afters at a church concert in Fredericksburg, VA. I attached an MP3 of the song which I used as a demo for the band to learn the song for our concert.  We performed this song live with two keyboards, an acoustic guitar, bass and full drum kit as well as three part harmonies.

Even though we have a knowledge that God is with us at all times, that He loves us and cares for us, sometimes its nice to have a reminder that even in our darkest moments, our Father is holding us in the palm of His hand.  I hope that this song encourages your heart.
